THE TASTE OF TURKEY

Hi, I'm Paula and I would like to share with you my experience in Turkey, a place I recently visited participating in the Erasmus+ project "Upcycling Lives". Turkish food surprised me a lot because it is very different from what we have in Spain.

Through the book (or "flipping book") that you can see clicking on the link, I will tell you a few things about it.

TO THE SOUND OF THE MINARETS

My name is Chorouk and I am a Muslim. In the recent visit we have made to Istanbul as part of the project we are working on at our secondary education school, I have had the opportunity to see a few of the beautiful mosques that decorate the city. I have experienced it in a slightly different way to my peers, who are not Muslims, and it has allowed me to teach them some of the customs of my religion. I have enjoyed it a lot!

Here I'm showing you some of my experiences and will tell you a little about the two main mosques in the city: the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. I hope you like it!

VISIT TO THE MOSQUES IN ISTANBUL

By Chorouk Mouzoun

An incredible experience in an Erasmus+

Turkey is a surprising country in many ways: the smells, the colours, the food, the customs... and, of course, Istanbul.

On our trip to Giresun we decided to stop in Istanbul in order to interview Sebnem Alp Alkin, co-founder of the Upcycle Istanbul platform. During our stay we had the opportunity to visit the city and get used to the traditions of the country, such as taking off your shoes to visit the mosques or that women have to cover their heads to be allowed to do so.

It was hard getting used to the tides of tourists that crowded all the prominent places of the city and the deafening noise that was everywhere but it was worth doing since the sunset that we enjoyed from the Galata Tower or the dinner with the minarets in the background are images that we will keep forever.

DISCOVERING GIRESUN:
A magical place on the Black Sea

Giresun is located in the north of Turkey, on the Black Sea coast, close to other towns such as Ordu, Samsun or Trebizond. In October 2022, we had the opportunity to visit it to meet our fellow project participants from the other countries and carry out upcycling activities and immersions in a kind of nature which was surprising to us.

In the small article that is displayed when you click on the link, you can discover a beautiful island close to the town that has an interesting history despite how small it is. In the same way, you will discover some characteristics of Giresun that will surprise you.

OUR EXPERIENCE IN A GREEK SCHOOL

24 DIMOTIKOS SCHOLIO THESSALONIKIS is a small primary school located in Thessaloniki. We visited it for several days to work together on "upcycling" issues with our colleagues from the schools that take part in our project.

We invite you to see how we make some "upcycling" objects using plastic, a fashion show created using plastic and a video where music is made using previously created "upcycling" instruments.

METEORA: Floating in the air

The Greek word Meteora means "suspended in the air" and this expression describes these remarkable Greek Orthodox monasteries in a very precise way. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. The place is really worth visiting and, if possible, spending at least two full days there. It will make an impression on you!

Take a look at this short explanation with nice photos below.

Walks in Thessaloniki.

During the days that we were in Thessaloniki to meet our European colleagues, we had the opportunity to discover it. We loved the area of the Trigonion (Chain) Tower, which appears in the photo, because it has wonderful views of the city and..., the area of the promenade, always with a lot of atmosphere, is another area that you cannot miss if you visit this charming city.

Vergina changed my idea of Greek culture.

The archaeological site of Aigai was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO due to its importance, because it is well preserved, being also one of the most important cemeteries in the world, and also because of the importance of Philip II (buried there) in the history of ancient Greece...

11:11 Cosmos DIY
Towards zero waste lifestyle!

On the last day of our trip to Thessaloniki we went to a very special store.

Since our project is about upcycling, our teacher found 11:11 Cosmus DIY, a socio-cultural shop/association (a kind of community) where we had a talk with Aravella, a woman who follows the zero waste lifestyle and who is also an "upcycler".

Come visit NOESIS with us!

At the end of the 20th century, the Thessaloniki Museum of Technology was very important in the cultural life of the city thanks to the knowledge of science and technology. During that period it was visited by more than 1.5 million people...

Exchange with the Agrupamento de Escolas de Pedome, Portugal.

From March 12th to 19th, we have spent a few days in Portugal to meet, in the second exchange of students this year, the other participants of the "upcycling" project that we are developing.

The experience has been great, with many interesting activities and the possibility of meeting new people from other countries, which we have loved. In  these situations, you realize that English is worth something...

We are sharing with you the work that some students have done on our adventure, which began the day before we met everyone, in Porto, where we were exploring some proposals related to "upcycling" in town on our own.

Visit to Osnovna Dobrise Cesarica, Zagreb.
Video of the activities carried out.

In this short video we show you some of the activities we carried out during our visit to Zagreb in October 2021. We learned how to make prints from tetraPack containers, painted a mural to defend the environment, we walked through Plitvice, a World Heritage Site, to value the beauty of nature and encourage us to conserve it, as well as many other workshops and interesting activities. We wish you like it!

Croatia-Spain

Updated: 24 Dec. 2021

On October 30th, our colleagues had to say goodbye to Croatia. They have taken advantage of these wonderful days a lot, but it was time to say goodbye.

The plane did not come directly to Spain, and so they had the opportunity to get to know Milan for a day.

As soon as they arrived, they went straight to their hotel. They were surprised at how beautiful it was inside and the atmosphere that there was.

Touring Croatia

Yesterday, Thursday October 28, our classmates spent the morning doing different projects and activities at school. They were very creative and put all the effort possible to make  very beautiful projects.

And on Friday, October 29th, they visited Plitvice Lakes. What a beautiful place!
